The Crabby Bill's Family Brands Raises $25,000 for St. Jude

What a year 2018 was! As we venture into the New Year, we reflect on one of The Original Crabby Bill’s Family Brands greatest accomplishments: raising $25,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

What started as a collective effort to improve our health and wellness, Matt Jr. (Crabby Bill’s grandson) found out about the Disney Wine & Dine Marathon Weekend. In this event, participants can choose to run on behalf of a charity, and so our partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital began.

Crabby Bill’s has been family owned and operated since 1983 and our founders, Bill and Dolores Loder, made helping others a huge part of their efforts, particularly children. Crabby Bill’s grandson Jakey, who is now 40 years old, was told by doctors he would never live beyond his teen years due to Cerebral Palsy. Throughout his life, he was dealt with countless health issues and hospitalizations, and our family recognized how important it is to have a hospital dedicated to the care of sick children.
In 1990, Crabby Bill started a fundraising drive for a local child, Keegan Clair, who was in desperate need of cancer treatment. Despite great effort taken on by the community in support of Keegan, he tragically passed away at just eight years old. Keegan Clair Park now honors him, located at the end of 2nd Avenue.

For our family, supporting organizations in their mission to fight childhood cancer and support families at their lowest points is incredibly important. Throughout the second half of 2018, we hosted a number of fundraisers including seafood boils, BBQ’s, food sales, raffle prizes, selling t-shirts, yoga events and more. Our goal started at raising $15,000 and we quickly realized with the support of the wonderful community of Indian Rocks Beach, we were capable of much more. On November 3rd, Team Crabby For A Cause participated in Disney’s Wine & Dine 10K on behalf of St. Jude. Some of us walked, some of us ran, but all of us completed the race with those suffering from childhood cancer in mind.

This past December, we blew our initial goal out of the water and donated $25,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital does an outstanding job of providing the best of care for their patients and supporting the family as a whole.  Our team, Crabby for a Cause, wanted to support a charity that fulfills its mission of “finding cures and saving children” and Danny Thomas’s efforts have fulfilled that dream for many families. St. Jude may have been the patron saint of hopeless causes, but the hospital built in his name begs to differ.

We would like to extend the biggest of thank you’s to the Indian Rocks Beach and local community for their support in our fundraising efforts. We are so appreciative of our guests, both from near and far, who took the time to attend our events or even just made donations online. We are incredibly thankful for the support we received from local organizations including the Indian Rocks Beach Homeowners AssociationAction 2000The City of Indian Rocks Beach, The Gower Family, Tropical Scooters & MotorcyclesSouthern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, and Cheney Brothers International.
